Early identification allows us to prevent complications, protect mobility, and keep you active and healthy.

Athletes Foot

Tinea pedis commonly known as athlete's foot, is a fungal infection that typically affects the skin on the feet, particularly between the toes. It is caused by fungi called dermatophytes, which thrives in warm, moist environments, such as public showers, swimming pools, and sweaty feet inside shoes. At AFAS, we perform thorough dermatologic (skin) exam to find and identify signs and symptoms that can indicate athletes foot. This allows us to start treatment early and resolve the problem.

Calluses & Corns

Calluses are thickened, hard areas of skin that form due to repeated friction or pressure.  Callus when overgrown or not treated can break down skin under it and become a problem. This can lead to pain, and even ulcers. If an ulcer develops under callus, it can continue to break down and can develop infection. At AFAS, we perform thorough foot & ankle exam every visit! This allows us to catch any skin lesion(s) such as callus(s) and diagnose and treat before they become a problem.

Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotic are specially designed shoe insoles that are made to fit your foot and ankle. They can help improve comfort, relieve pain, and prevent further foot and ankle issues by providing additional support where needed. At AFAS, we provide the most up to date technology to produce custom orthotics that will last you for years to come. This devise is designed just for you, using digital casting technique and a prescription that is written based on exam findings.

Dry Skin

Dry Skin refers to abnormally dry skin, which can occur anywhere on the body, including the feet. The skin on the foot/ankle can become rough, flaky, cracked, and irritated, especially when it’s exposed to certain factors like cold weather, low humidity, or frequent friction and circulation problems. At AFAS, we provide thorough exam to determine the cause of dry skin and treat appropriately.

Fungus toenails

Nail fungus is a common fungal infection of the nails, typically affecting the toenails. It occurs when fungi invades the nail bed or nail plate, causing the nails to become discolored, thickened, and fragile. The infection can cause discomfort and, if left untreated, can spread or worsen to other toenails or even the skin. At AFAS, we provide thorough medical management of toenail fungus infection. Toenail fungus is a treatable condition. At AFAS we have many options to help you get rid of the fungal (yellow nails) nail(s). See us soon to learn about treatment options.

Although it can occur in diabetics with no diabetic induced neuropathy. Without proper treatment, Charcot can lead to significant deformities and disability. At AFAS, we perform thorough examination to determine the cause of the abnormality and provide treatment accordingly.

Diabetic Foot Examination

Diabetes can cause problems for your feet due to nerve damage (neuropathy), poor circulation, and slow wound healing. At AFAS, we offer screening and testing for vascular disease, and neuropathy. Regular diabetic foot exams help detect problems early and prevent serious complications, like infections and or amputations. Ingrown Toenaill

An ingrown toenail happens when the entire edge (border) of your nail grows into the surrounding skin. This can cause pain, redness, swelling, and infection. Untreated ingrown toenail can lead to other problems such as nail deformity, discoloration, pyogenic granuloma (mass on side of the toenail). At AFAS, we perform thorough exam to evaluate ingrown toenail(s), treat infection if need be, and perform proper ingrown toenail correction(s). We discuss in great detail about after care and how to prevent it from coming back. You walk out pain free with supplies you will need for after care (same day appointment)

Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are small growths that appear on the bottom of the foot, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can be painful, especially when walking or standing, and may feel like a pebble under the skin. At AFAS, after thorough examination, we provide comprehensive treatments for plantar warts.
