Flatfoot and High Arch Foot Types
-
A flatfoot or pes planus is a condition when the arches of the foot have flattened. This can be congenital (born with) or acquired (develop over time). A high arch foot or pes cavus is a condition when the arches of the foot are higher than normal. Both pes planus and pes cavus cause an uneven distribution of pressures, which can lead to pain and the development of musculoskeletal deformities like a bunion or hammertoe.
